The sale of green cars in the United States has been on a steady decline lately. Models from Arizona VW Dealer are affected a little, but the Volkswagen line up is known for being made of high quality materials that will last a long time. Their hybrid and diesel engine vehicles are still selling at a steady rate. But other models, like the hybrids at San Diego Ford are not faring as well. The popular and recognizable Smart For Two also isn't doing very well, and their United States sales are bringing down their global sales record at the same time! Just looking at global sales for July 2010 we see a decrease of 20% in sales when compared to the numbers from July 2010; only 8,400 units were sold in July 2010 across the globe.
People in America jumped initially all over the Smart For Two because it was so different. Its popularity grew among city drivers and people who were regular commuters. But when all is said and done, people in this country require more than two seats. In the American economy where families are moving in with one another to save money, people need the ability to transport more than the driver and one passenger! Sure, people want to be green and reduce pollution, but they aren't willing to give up the size and space of the vehicle. There is a good reason that the green hybrid line up at Greenville Chevy Dealer is composed of the Silverado truck and Tahoe full size SUV; Americans like big cars!
If Daimler wants the Smart brand to remain successful in the United States, they need to strongly reconsider their Smart For Four. The four-seater was discontinued in 2006, and there are rumors of it being released again come 2013. Drivers want more than the coupe or cabrio edition as a choice. The Smart For Two is a great safe car that is incredibly fuel efficient. Sales in the U.S. are down by a whopping 60.5% compared to the same time period last year.
