BMW and Mazda Under Investigation?

Mazda and BMW are being investigated by United States safety regulators for a defect in the power steering system on certain models. BMW is the largest luxury automobile manufacturer in the world, and Mazda is one of Japan’s top automobile companies. Pre-owned models from both manufacturers can be test driven at a Bradenton used cars dealer. New York Ford sells the latest domestic Ford models. Volkswagen is known for its safety features and the latest 2011 models can be bought at a discount with Volkswagen Deals.

The particular models that are affected include the Mazda 3 and the BMW Z4. There were a series of over 100 complaints dealing with power steering problems in the models that resulted in the start of an investigation. The result of the investigation may very well lead to recalls for both automakers.

Auto safety experts believe that some automakers may not be quick to issue recalls due to the negative publicity that is associated with recalls. The Mazda3 model has had 33 complaints with three crashes supposedly related to the vehicle fault, and the BMW Z4 has had over 100 complaints with one crash.

The models that are involved in the investigation total about 350,000 combined from both brands. The steering wheel is said to “stick” at certain speeds and driving circumstances. The BMW model supposedly causes drivers to over compensate on steering while turning, and is said to occur at speeds over 45 miles per hour and temperatures of 75 F or higher.

The Mazda fault is said to occur during driving. The vehicles lose power steering which requires drivers to exercise more force in order to keep control of their vehicles. Although BMW has had a recent recall, Mazda has been quiet in recent months for recall issues.

A BMW spokesperson said that “We will provide all the information they request and we cooperate with them always at these levels,” in reference to the current investigation of the brand.
