U.S. Safety Regulators Requested to Disclose Crash Data

Data from 2009 and 2010 crashes that were related or supposedly related to Toyota defects is being requested to be released by U.S. regulators. Toyota is in head to head competition with brands like GM and Ford, and GM's latest models can be found at an NC Chevrolet Dealer. The latest Ford makes and models can also be found at Boise Ford Dealers.

There are several safe models that can be purchased during VW Deals as well. The House wants to review the data to see whether there is any connection between a vehicle defect and the accidents, or whether the connect is more related to driver errors.

A representative of the House made a request that the U.S. regulators who studied cases of accidents involving Toyota's acceleration problems by pushing the wrong pedal or through a defect that caused a "sticky accelerator." Reports came in from around the world that Toyota car accelerators were sticking to floor mats on some models which caused several thousands of accidents and a number of fatalities.

Representative Joe Barton asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Wednesday night for information regarding the accidents. Toyota said last week that crash data recorders showed that virtually all of the Toyota sticky accelerator accidents were actually caused by driver error. Other independent investigations are continuing into the matter.

It seems that perhaps Congress or other third parties would like to conduct their own investigations into the accelerator problems in order to see whether their own results and findings would be the same as Toyota's. If Toyota's findings turn out to be similar to other groups, Toyota has nothing to lose and everything to gain by releasing the information. However, if the information was somehow biased, then it could potentially be even more troublesome for Toyota or regulators to release the information.
